| I was looking at a tutorial for editing smileys and in the very beginning it says to save the smiley by Right Click > "Save Picture As..." and then opening it in Photoshop and it would have the animation. Problem is, that tutorial was for the earlier versions of Photoshop (CS2 for example.) In the earlier versions of Photoshop a program would come with it called "ImageReady". ImageReady was the whole animation part of Photoshop, then. If you wanted to animate something or open something that was animated, you would open it with ImageReady and the whole animation of the image would be displayed. When Adobe made Photoshop CS3, they pretty much added the features of ImageReady into it. Photoshop does not have the ability to open GIF animations such as smileys with the full animation. All Photoshop can do is display the first frame of it. Since they combined ImageReady to Photoshop they no longer make or supply ImageReady. Because of this, it is almost impossible to open GIF animations with Photoshop. A discussion started about this in the Adobe forums and Adobe replied with this:
"Open the animated GIF file in Adobe Fireworks." Correct, I mean, its only $300 to buy Adobe Fireworks just for GIF animation. And now back to me... I was wondering if there was any way of opening GIF animation after I couldn't open the smiley I wanted. So I went to Google (of course) and found most of what is above. I then thought that there had to be some way of opening GIF animation. I got that idea from Plug-ins. Plug-ins are filters that you can download and add to Photoshop for more filters and effects. Back on topic, I then searched more and found more of what is above and the solution, the "don't-pay-$300-just-to-open-GIF-animation-solution" or DP$JTOGAS/DP3JTOGAS/DPTJTOGAS... Solution mentioned by Brett Dalton, a member of the Adobe forums:
| Quote: | Choose File > Import > Video Frames to Layers In the file browser in Windows, type *.* in the File Name and press Enter or click Load. It will not open any file, but it will view every file without restriction of Type of Files. Open your animated GIF files, it will show you a dialog box regarding the imports. Press OK to import as default. Voila! The file is opened in animation frames. You can view the animation time frames from Windows > Animation
|
Photoshop CS3 won’t even import videos without QuickTime version 7.1 or above installed in your computer. You should first download it from Apple What about MAC? MAC can’t do the above solution by typing *.* in the file name. But here is another option:
| Quote: | Change the animated GIF file you want to open into .MOV file. Therefore the Import Video Frames to Layers function will recognize it as a video file and will open it as animated sequence. However, this method won’t always works and the quality of the file is questionable.

And now back to me... I am not sure if anyone has noticed this before or if it has been posted before and I am just a newb but I thought I would post this for those who don't know, like me. Hope that I have helped someone by posting this long thread. (It actually gave me something to do because I am bored)

| Wow, This really helped. If you look in the patent of PS CS3 Extended you can see the program was written by Apple, thats why it wants Quick Time... _________________

| If you have Photoshop 7.0 then theres an Image Ready. I doubt they would listen to you if you contacted them about Image Ready _________________

I think I posted this in my first post...
They discontinued it because all of its features were added to CS3 when it came out. _________________
